Singapore Accelerates National AI Strategy
At the country’s flagship ATxSummit technology conference, Singapore announced several major AI agreements with Nvidia, OpenAI, and Google. The initiatives support the government’s broader strategy to strengthen its position in the global AI race.
These developments build on Singapore’s long-term economic plans, including more than 1 billion Singapore dollars ($780 million USD) in public AI investment between 2025 and 2030. By combining strong regulation, political neutrality, and a highly skilled workforce, Singapore has become an attractive base for leading AI companies.
Nvidia Launches Advanced AI Research Hub in Singapore
Nvidia announced the launch of its first AI research center in Singapore, marking the company’s second research hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
The facility will focus on two major areas:
- Embodied AI: Developing technologies that interact with the physical world, including robots, drones, and autonomous vehicles.
- AI Infrastructure Optimization: Improving the energy and operational efficiency of the systems powering advanced AI models.
To support commercial deployment, Nvidia will work alongside universities, government agencies, and private-sector partners.
Singapore Introduces AI Robotics Testbed
Singapore also revealed plans to launch a dedicated robotics testbed later this year through a new Center for Intelligent Robotics.
The initiative will allow companies to design, test, and validate AI-powered robotic systems in real-world environments.
Initial projects include:
- Logistics and Delivery: Partnerships with QuikBot, DHL, Grab, and Slamtec to test autonomous food and parcel delivery.
- Security and Maintenance: Collaboration with Certis and Unitree for AI-powered cleaning and security patrol systems.
OpenAI Commits $234 Million to Singapore AI Expansion
OpenAI signed its first memorandum of understanding with Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information, committing more than 300 million Singapore dollars ($234 million USD) to support the local AI ecosystem.
A major part of the investment is the creation of the OpenAI Singapore Applied AI Lab – the company’s first applied research lab outside the United States. The move follows the opening of OpenAI’s regional commercial office in 2024.
The lab is expected to employ more than 200 people over the next several years. Its work will focus on integrating frontier AI into sectors such as digital infrastructure, finance, healthcare, and public services.
OpenAI also plans to launch engineering training programs and support AI startup accelerators to help develop local talent.
Google Expands AI Partnership Across Healthcare and Education
Google expanded its existing partnership with the Singaporean government by signing a new National AI Partnership agreement.
Although Google did not announce a direct investment figure, the collaboration focuses on workforce development, healthcare innovation, scientific research, and AI security.
Key Areas of the Google Partnership
Agentic AI for Scientific Research
Google will train government researchers to use agentic AI systems capable of autonomous workflow execution to accelerate scientific research.
AI Training for Education
Working with the Ministry of Education, Google plans to help educators integrate AI tools into classrooms more effectively.
AI Co-Clinician Healthcare Research
Google will explore how AI agents can assist patients and support physicians in healthcare and life sciences.
The partnership follows the launch of Singapore’s AI Agents Sandbox in August 2025. Google and the Singaporean government have also co-authored a whitepaper focused on the secure deployment of autonomous AI systems.
Google has continued expanding its regional presence, including the launch of a Google DeepMind research laboratory in Singapore last year.
Singapore Strengthens Position as a Global AI Hub
Singapore’s strategic location, business-friendly environment, and regulatory stability continue to attract major international AI investments.
Alongside existing infrastructure commitments from Microsoft and Amazon Web Services (AWS), the latest partnerships with Nvidia, OpenAI, and Google are helping transform Singapore into one of Asia’s most important hubs for AI development and real-world deployment.
