Anthropic Nears $1T Valuation Amid AI IPO Boom and Global Security Concerns
Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming the most powerful force on Wall Street – and Anthropic may be at the center of it. After securing a massive $65 billion funding round, the company is now reportedly targeting a staggering $1 trillion valuation, fueling expectations of a historic AI-driven market rally while also sparking growing cybersecurity and geopolitical concerns across the U.S. and Europe.
The Next Wave of AI Mega-IPOs
Anthropic’s recent $965 billion valuation cap is “just the tip of the spear” for the broader technology sector, according to Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives. Backed by an unprecedented wave of AI investment, Ives believes the Nasdaq could surpass 30,000 points by 2027.
That optimism is helping drive expectations for a new generation of mega-IPOs expected in late 2026, led by three of the most influential companies in tech:
- SpaceX – targeting a $1.75 trillion valuation on the Nasdaq with an expected float date of June 12.
- OpenAI – formally preparing for a public listing later this year.
- Anthropic – positioning itself for a major IPO while expecting to report its first profitable quarter in upcoming earnings.
Ives describes the companies as the “three pillars of the fourth industrial revolution,” adding that Anthropic currently has the strongest AI model in the industry, putting significant pressure on rival OpenAI.
Still, not everyone on Wall Street is convinced the rally can continue indefinitely.
Some strategists are comparing today’s AI enthusiasm to the late-1990s dot-com bubble.
“Everybody knows the top is pretty close to being around, and usually it is advertised by these giant IPOs,” said John Blank, chief equity strategist at Zacks. “Back in 1999, we saw the same kind of thing where people were just rushing to get these IPOs out.”
Despite concerns that companies like SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic are still not consistently profitable on an annual basis, Ives argues that the current market resembles the early stages of 1997 rather than the peak conditions of 1999.
He also pointed investors toward infrastructure and data-layer companies such as Snowflake, Datadog, and InnoData, where institutional AI spending continues to accelerate.
The U.S.-China AI Race Intensifies
Another major factor behind soaring AI valuations is the geopolitical race between the United States and China.
“For the first time in 30 years, the U.S. is ahead of China on technology,” Ives said, echoing comments from U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
According to Bessent, the U.S. government is working closely with leading AI laboratories to maintain America’s technological lead while balancing rapid innovation with national security concerns.
Anthropic’s Mythos Model Sparks Cybersecurity Fears
While investors celebrate Anthropic’s explosive growth, the company’s ultra-advanced “Mythos” model has triggered serious debate among governments and cybersecurity experts.
Originally announced in April, Mythos reportedly possesses highly advanced cyber capabilities that have dramatically shifted discussions around AI-powered cyberattacks.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently warned that Western organizations may have only six to 12 months to patch tens of thousands of software vulnerabilities identified by the model before competing Chinese AI systems reach similar capabilities.
As a result, access to Mythos has remained tightly controlled.
Under “Project Glasswing,” Anthropic initially released the model only to a small group of selected companies through a private preview program.
The White House also reportedly opposed a proposal that would have expanded access to around 70 additional organizations, citing major security concerns.
At the same time, no foreign governments – with the exception of the United Kingdom’s AI Security Institute – have been granted preview access to the model, including the European Union and its dedicated AI Office.
Growing Tensions Between the U.S. and Europe
The restricted rollout of Mythos has intensified discussions between the European Union and the United States over advanced AI regulation and cybersecurity standards.
European Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier confirmed that the EU is expanding technical talks with Anthropic and other AI developers.
“Cybersecurity is a shared priority and we have agreed to mutually recognize our respective standards in this area,” Regnier said.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, Anthropic informed EU officials that direct approval from the White House would be required before the bloc could receive preview access to Mythos.
The U.S. administration is reportedly not opposed to cooperation with Europe specifically, but maintains broader restrictions on sharing advanced AI cyber systems with non-U.S. sovereign governments.
Can AI Growth and Security Coexist?
As demand for advanced AI systems continues to surge, Anthropic says it is rapidly developing stronger cybersecurity safeguards designed to protect critical digital infrastructure without slowing commercial adoption.
The company expects to bring “Mythos-class” models to commercial customers in the coming weeks, betting that improved safeguards will allow AI innovation, market growth, and national security priorities to coexist during what many investors already see as the next major technology boom.
